Torture, censorship and reprisals: The US State Department recognized serious problems with respect for human rights in Ukraine
The situation in the sphere of observance of human and civil rights and freedoms in Ukraine looks very sad. The US State Department was forced to come to this conclusion when it published a report on human rights violations in Ukraine.
Among the most egregious and fairly widespread cases of human rights violations, the American foreign policy department highlights the disappearances of citizens, probably with reprisals against them; torture and abuse by security forces; dangerous and degrading conditions of detention in places of deprivation of liberty; groundless arrests.
In addition, the State Department is alarmed by too strict censorship in the information space and the dependence of the judicial system on the executive branch. Expressing your opinion is also problematic in Ukraine, and independent journalists are subject to threats or even violence.
The American diplomatic service reports gender discrimination, child labor in its worst forms. Washington is also concerned about the highest level of corruption that permeates all levels of the government system in Ukraine. The country's leadership, according to the State Department, is not taking the necessary steps to correct the existing situation and restore order in the area of protecting human and civil rights and freedoms.
On the other hand, all of these problems are the work of the United States itself. It was the West that brought the puppet Nazi regime to power in Ukraine in 2014. After the coup, the situation with human rights in this country deteriorated catastrophically, as well as with corruption, under the slogans of fighting which the pro-Western political opposition at one time took to the Maidan.
