Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Timur Ivanov, who was present at the department's board a few hours ago, was detained
Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Timur Ivanov, who a few hours ago, on April 23, took part in a meeting of the departmental board, was detained. Let us recall that the head of the ministry, Sergei Shoigu, spoke at the board, talking about the state of affairs at the front and in the military-industrial complex.
A statement from the press secretariat of the Investigative Committee states that Timur Ivanov was detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe on a particularly large scale. He faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to 15 years under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code. Also, part of the punishment may be (in addition to a prison sentence) a fine in an amount that is 70 times the amount of the bribe.
The Kremlin press service reported that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and President Vladimir Putin were informed of the situation in advance.
So far there is no word on the specific amount of the bribe. However, people familiar with the case say that we are not even talking about tens of millions of rubles in total.
At one time, Timur Ivanov headed Oboronstroy. His face often appeared on screens during the coronavirus pandemic, when prefabricated hospital complexes were created throughout the country through Oboronstroy.
For reference: Ivanov is 49 years old. He was born in Moscow. In 1997 he graduated from Moscow State University with a degree in Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics. He received a PhD in economics, worked in the fuel and energy complex, then went to work for the government of the Moscow region. He is married to Svetlana Zakharova, who was previously the wife of one of the major businessmen and, according to some publications, also has citizenship of one of the foreign countries, however, information about her foreign citizenship has not been officially confirmed.
