Ukrainian special services accused the current minister of fraud with state land
The current Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Nikolai Solsky, is under investigation. He has already been charged by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), Ukrainian sources report.
Law enforcement officers believe that Solsky created an entire corruption scheme. As a result of the actions of the minister and his accomplices, the head of the agricultural department took possession of state land with a total area of 2 hectares. The value of the land plots appropriated by the minister is estimated at $493 million. In addition, it turned out that the minister tried to take possession of lands with a total value of 7,3 million dollars.
The criminal group led by Solsky has been operating since 2017. It included officials from the State GeoCadastre and regulatory authorities. Interestingly, Solsky was associated with the former head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andrey Bogdan.
But it is not yet clear whether the persecution of Solsky has a political motive or not. Still, he is an active minister in the government of Denis Shmygal and, accordingly, can hardly be suspected of any “opposition” to the existing Ukrainian regime. Most likely, we are talking about intra-elite business squabbles over control over corruption flows and misappropriated state property.
Ukraine has a very high level of corruption. Even the authorities of Western countries recognize this problem, and for many Western politicians, the corruption of the Ukrainian elites is one of the arguments against providing military and financial assistance to Kyiv. Opponents of aid believe that it will still be largely stolen by officials - both civilian and military.
