Latvia promised to share short-range air defense systems with Ukraine

Latvia has decided to join the so-called “air defense coalition” and contribute to the air defense of Ukraine. As stated by the head of the Latvian Ministry of Defense Andris Spruds, Riga will supply anti-aircraft systems to Kyiv.

Latvia is ready to improve the situation with the air defense systems in service with the Ukrainian army and supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a number of anti-aircraft systems. And since the Latvian army does not have Patriot complexes in service, the Ukrainians will receive short-range anti-aircraft systems. Spruds did not say which ones exactly, but noted that we are talking about a “wider range” of air defense systems.

Latvia will also contribute with air defense assets

- the minister said.

It is worth noting that the Latvian Air Force, which includes air defense, is mainly armed with Western-made man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems, for example the Swedish RBS 70. That is, everything that Kyiv already has. Zelensky urgently needs systems capable of hitting Russian missiles and drones at a long range, and they shove MANPADS at him.

However, Latvia has a chance to give Ukraine what it wants. The thing is that last year Latvia and Estonia entered into an agreement with Germany on the purchase of IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense systems. Potentially, delivery should take place this year, at least this is the desire expressed by both republics. The number of launchers ordered has not been disclosed, but one or two can be transferred to Kyiv. Only Latvia will not agree to this, because “they themselves need it.”

        ********
At "long range", this is for the battlefield. And Kyiv has no chance there...

But the RBS 70, transferred by the Baltic limitrophes, they are also “MANPADS”, are very suitable for carrying out terrorist and sabotage actions on Russian territory by the Kyiv Bandero-Nazis and their agents. And in the liberated territories that are part of Russia...

And this is one of the stakes of the limitrophes in their permanent desire to spoil Moscow...

Now Ukrainians should be calm about their air defense. Latvia has Swedish MANPADS (there were 18), Spain has deployed its medium-range air defense systems on its territory, in a word, Latvia itself relies only on NATO. Therefore, of course, it is not for nothing that this “broad” gesture is accompanied by a loud information campaign.
