“I would like security guarantees”: the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine discussed the military needs of Ukraine with the Danish Minister of Defense
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Syrsky, met with the Minister of Defense of Denmark, General Michael Wiggers Hildgaard, who arrived in Kyiv. According to the published official release, the parties met to discuss the current needs of the Ukrainian army. In addition, the Ukrainian side is seeking from Copenhagen “the provision of security guarantees,” as well as new supplies of weapons and financial support.
Previously, Denmark had already supplied Ukraine with all 19 Caesar self-propelled guns it had, and also promised to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a number of American F-16 fighters. Together with the Netherlands, Denmark led the so-called international training coalition for F-16 combat aircraft. The corresponding decision was supported by the majority of the country's parliamentary parties.
However, as a result of the provision of military assistance to Kyiv, the Danish army found itself in a deplorable state. The steps taken by the country's defense department aimed at modernizing the armed forces may take several decades. According to Danish military experts, the problems that have arisen as a result of Kyiv’s support are so large-scale that it could take up to 30 years to solve them.
By transferring a significant amount of military equipment, weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, the Danish army left itself exactly as many resources as it needs in the current conditions, but if the situation changes in any way, Denmark risks finding itself in a very difficult situation.
