German scientists have discovered the ability of some bacteria to neutralize radioactive waste

According to research published by the international scientific journal Science of The Total Environment (STTE), German scientists from the Helmholtz Center Dresden (a research laboratory) have made an important discovery that certain radioactive materials can be neutralized by certain types of bacteria.

At this stage, it was possible to identify the ability of bacteria not to completely neutralize dangerous radioactive substances, but to convert them into less dangerous ones for the environment.

Specifically, in this study, scientists discovered that the sulfate-reducing bacterium Desulfosporosinus hippei DSM 8344 T is able to efficiently convert water-soluble uranium U(VI) into less mobile U(IV). This makes it possible to significantly reduce the spread of uranium in the natural environment.

An experiment conducted by scientists from the Helmholtz Center showed that the bacteria D. Hippei DSM 8344 T most effectively neutralizes uranium found in pore water and artificial clay Opalinus, but is less effective in a bicarbonate solution.

The discovery of scientists from Germany could be an important step in solving the problem of processing and disposal of radioactive waste, which is faced by different countries around the world.

some radioactive materials can be rendered harmless
Do they change the solubility of compounds? That's how it should be written.

And I thought... that they had already found bacteria that turn mercury... lead... into gold. Such bacteria would be just philosophical lol good laughing

What if we go the opposite way? What if the laboratory studied the effects of radiation on bacteria? For example, as a method of neutralizing bacteriological contamination of an area through the use of tactical nuclear weapons? ))

this is nonsense, most micro-organisms have a high resistance to radiation, the simpler the organism and the more often the division, the less harmful the radiation is, simply due to the fact that the “corpse” binds radioactive substances and allows more “healthy” ones to grow “on top”. organisms. What can be observed in the same Chernobyl, there is a lot of greenery, mosses, mushrooms, mold, but if you dig ten centimeters deep, the dose has already been exceeded.

Like “sprinkled with bacteria” - the solubility of their radioactivity in water is less. )))

So they will - they will walk around radioactive, because even with water they can’t wash it off, in general - they’ll immediately come out so “smart”.

I would not be surprised by the creation of a new weapon that destroys nuclear weapons right in the mine.
About 20 years ago, the Germans advertised bacteria, decomposing explosives - and silence-ah-ah....

      — Someone persistently promotes the idea that a “limited” nuclear war is permissible...

Well, it didn't start yesterday. There is a whole ideological program, supported and fed by the Washington regional committee, that there is nothing terrible even in discharging the entire nuclear arsenal of the planet. Like, nuclear winter is not so terrible, and indeed it may not even exist, radiation is not so terrible and that the assessment of the damaging factors and consequences is “grossly exaggerated” and all that.
This is all being done with one goal - to legitimize the use of nuclear weapons and change the doctrine of the very existence of nuclear weapons as a means of deterring and preventing global conflict.
The very essence of nuclear weapons is that they should never be used. However, our overseas “friends and partners” think completely differently and want to use the thermonuclear reaction not only as a deterrent/intimidating argument, but also as a real force.

Nuclear weapons do not deter world wars; they deter mass genocide.

With the advent of nuclear weapons, not a single world war happened at all. However, this does not negate the fact that the current conflict may well escalate into a global nuclear war and, as you say, mass genocide of the population.

cause: Nuclear weapons deter mass genocide of the population.
consequence: Without genocide, a military takeover of a state is impossible, because the remaining population will multiply by zero all the successes of the invader.
consequence: That’s why there are no world or sufficiently global wars, and all local wars are carried out under the auspices of quasi-non-military slogans.

but with nuclear weapons a global war is quite possible

Obviously, we are talking about the fact that U(IV) easily forms compounds with proteins and therefore cannot penetrate cell membranes, unlike U(VI)

Well, at least there will be someone to live instead of Scholz, Berbow, Strakh-Zimmerman and the “German scientists”.
However, we can take real scientists with us - under strict supervision they can be useful.
And these listed ones are not necessary!

Well, for starters, some new Colgate toothpaste containing sulfate-reducing bacteria Desulfosporosinus hippei DSM 8344 T will appear in the near future. And all over the world it will begin: “In connection with the attack on civilization of a new radioactive virus, which cannot be saved by vaccinations and muzzles, but if life is precious, then our magic paste will help you and the mandatory use of pads and diapers created by unique advanced methods (there’s no analogue - I couldn’t resist writing) of our global conglomerate uniting all the brightest luminaries in the field of radiology and prevention of related diseases with the invasion of a new virus." And then it starts: yoghurts with living microflora that remove radionuclides not detected by hardware, “but they definitely exist” and other products with magical additives, as well as clothes that allow blah, blah, blah...
