A fragment of a top-secret Cold War-era target missile was discovered on a beach in the US state of Massachusetts.
According to the American television channel Fox News, a piece of ammunition was found on the beach of the island of Cape Cod located in the eastern part of the state. After the fragment was handed over to specialists, as a result of the study it was determined that the found object was part of the fuselage of a target missile associated with a top-secret Pentagon program during the Cold War. Experts came to the conclusion that the find was a fragment of an RCAT target rocket, and this technology was top secret. RCAT stood for "Remote Controlled Aerial Target".
RCATs were unmanned aircraft used for anti-aircraft gunnery training at the former US military training camp Camp Wellfleet in the 1940s and 1950s. At the same time, the existence of these drones knew a very limited circle of people.
Earlier it was reported that in the American city of Bellevue, law enforcement officers discovered an air-to-air missile designed to deliver nuclear warheads with a yield of 1,5 kilotons in the garage of one of the local residents.
Experts who examined the found rocket determined that the find was an unguided Douglas AIR-2 Genie rocket, which did not pose a danger due to the lack of a fuel tank.
