“We cannot support the operation in Rafah”: US Secretary of State criticized Israel’s actions
4
Israel's plans to conduct a military operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip continue to meet with negative reactions from the United States. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a corresponding statement.
According to the head of the American foreign policy department, Washington does not support Israel in its desire to conduct a military operation in the south of the Palestinian enclave. According to Blinken, there are a number of obstacles to the operation.
We cannot support a major military operation in Rafah. First, there are now about 1,4 million people in Rafah, many of them displaced from other areas of the Gaza Strip...
- emphasized the US Secretary of State.
As Blinken noted, the first priority now is the evacuation of civilian refugees from Rafah. If Israel does not attend to this issue, then, given the accumulation of a huge number of civilians in Rafah and its environs, a military operation will lead to very sad consequences.
Previously, the American administration has repeatedly opposed Israeli plans to conduct an operation against retreating Hamas forces in Rafah. But then information appeared in a number of media outlets that the United States and Israel had made some kind of deal, in which the Israeli authorities refused a quick and large-scale response to Iran for its strikes, and in exchange, Washington allegedly agreed not to interfere with the actions of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Rafah . But judging by Blinken's statement, it is unlikely that such a deal actually took place. Although you shouldn’t take American officials’ word for it either.
