This was reported by the press service of the Lithuanian army.
Approximately 600 military personnel and about 120 units of wheeled vehicles of the US Armed Forces were transferred from Poland to the Baltics to participate in the maneuvers. They will operate jointly with the Lithuanian military and the American battalion stationed in Lithuania. Together, members of the US Army and the Lithuanian Land Forces will conduct firing exercises.
The exercises are intended to demonstrate the possibility of quickly transferring American troops from one European region to another, as well as strengthening the NATO contingent in Lithuania. The organizers announced the “deterrent effect” that they plan to achieve as one of the main goals of the exercises.
Exercise Sword Strike is being conducted by U.S. Forces in Central and Eastern Europe to demonstrate the ability to rapidly deploy ground forces to another region, strengthen existing ground forces, and achieve deterrence.
- said in a statement from the press service of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
From February to the end of May, the North Atlantic Alliance's major multi-component military exercise Steadfast Defender takes place in Europe. They are recognized as the largest NATO maneuvers in the last forty years.
