German authorities called the presence of Russian officials at commemorative events marking the 79th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camp prisoners undesirable. The Russian embassy in Berlin received the corresponding notification.
They do not want to allow Russia to attend events commemorating the liberation of concentration camp prisoners liberated by the Soviet army. The Germans do not explain how this decision was justified. The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that Germany continues to follow the path of distortion historical truth, reducing the merits of the Soviet Union in the fight against fascism and the liberation of Europe from Nazism.
We regard and consider this provocative attack as another step by the German side, aimed at further politicizing in an anti-Russian way the historical memory of the course and results of the Second World War. We believe that this is the destruction of historical memory and truth about the Second World War on the part of official Berlin
- Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
Berlin is also ignoring a note sent by the Russian embassy in March of this year demanding that the crimes committed by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the Soviet Union be officially recognized as acts of genocide.
International Day for the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps is celebrated annually on April 11, this date was established by the UN in memory of the international uprising of prisoners of the Buchenwald concentration camp that occurred on April 11, 1945.
