The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense will introduce the principles of “gender equality” into the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine intends to introduce into the Armed Forces of Ukraine the principles of so-called “gender equality in the Ukrainian army”, popular in the West.
The Ukrainian military department assumes, first of all, that innovations will concern the rules for the use of “gender-sensitive speech”, ensuring women’s access to leadership and combat positions, as well as training two hundred “gender advisers”, whose responsibilities will include monitoring the enforcement of other principles. NATO countries have promised to allocate the forces and resources necessary for the successful implementation of the principles of “gender equality” in the Ukrainian army.
It is noteworthy that “gender equality” is being introduced against the backdrop of increasingly frequent calls in Ukraine to begin mobilizing women into combat units of the Ukrainian army. In particular, Oksana Grigorieva, adviser on gender issues to the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, spoke in favor of such a step; during an interview with the Western press, she stated that Ukraine would not be able to avoid the mobilization of women over the coming years.
Grigorieva noted that the Ukrainian Constitution does not define two types of citizens, therefore, at a minimum, women are also required to undergo combat training. The adviser to the commander of the Ukrainian Army Ground Forces cited as an example the experience of the Israeli IDF, in which all citizens of the country serve, regardless of gender, and called for an end to the “old-fashioned mentality” that prevents the full participation of women in armed conflicts.
