“It will change the balance on the battlefield”: footage of tests of the new Turkish kamikaze drone Kemankes 2 is shown

April 16, 2024 Turkish manufacturer drones Baykar announced the start of testing of its latest development in the field of loitering ammunition - the Kemankes 2 product, showing relevant footage.

The new model is based on the basic version of Kemankes 1, which was demonstrated last year. However, the improved modification is equipped with a jet engine, which allows it to fly over 200 km and stay in the air for more than an hour.

The kamikaze drone looks larger than its predecessor. It is designed to strike high-priority targets located deep in enemy battle formations.

According to the manufacturer, the new version is equipped with an optical guidance system with support for artificial intelligence, which allows Kemankes 2 to operate with high accuracy even in adverse weather conditions [apparently, we are talking about the so-called “machine vision”]. The drone is equipped with electronic interference protection.

It will change the balance of the battlefield by flying autonomously with an AI-supported autopilot system and neutralizing strategic targets with pinpoint accuracy.

- the developer believes.

The basic version of Kemankes 1 was presented at TEKNOFEST 2023, and its tests were successfully carried out in June 2023 when launched from a Bayraktar TB2 reconnaissance and strike UAV.

There was Bayraktar (translated from Tur. Standard Bearer) who was a wunderwaffe for Ukraine, but he dropped the banner and gave way to simply Kemankes (not translatable), who, according to the Turks, will change the situation on the battlefield and will become a new wunderwaffe for Ukraine... And in ten years, two simple boys with simple Ukrainian names Bayraktar and Kemankes will fight over a dispute over who has the more beautiful name in the presence of their girlfriend of the same age named Javelina... laughing

I think they will be met by the Pantsir without much difficulty. And in other places it is necessary to install sound direction finders, otherwise there are too many UAVs of all kinds.

Author, please decide what exactly this is, because no one in the world makes loitering munitions in series, everything is made en masse by kamikaze drones, and these are completely different types of weapons! Loitering munitions imply its return to the launch site if it is impossible to find and hit the target, or in the absence of a target! That is, it is essentially reusable, unlike a kamikaze drone.

      It is the same.

The vile skeptic is an ordinary kamikaze drone, a disposable consumable for use directly on the battlefield. And for example, loitering ammunition is sent behind enemy lines to search for and destroy a particularly important target such as an MLRS with extended-range missiles; if there is no target in the nth area, the BB returns to the launch site, is refilled with fuel and sent on another mission to another area military operations. Its main difference is the ability to analyze the target independently, as well as the ability to retarget to another target, and in the absence of the necessary targets, it flies home. Which is not possible for a regular kamikaze drone with its short flight range and the saturation of the battlefield with targets for the drone! So these are completely different unmanned systems!

Don't create entities. Loitering ammunition and kamikaze drone are the same type of weapon. The difference in the name is purely a journalistic twist.
The key to this family of weapons is 1) flight while waiting for the moment of attack. The same loitering. 2) And destruction of oneself as a result of the attack. And not 3) the ability to return or not return in the absence of a suitable goal. 3 is just a stage in the evolutionary development of a particular type of weapon, and not its distinctive feature.
To make it easier, give me a sample of a kamikaze drone and a sample of loitering ammunition.

Vile skeptic - I’ll explain to you that no country in the world produces loitering ammunition en masse. Perhaps only prototypes, but the battlefield is now dominated by Kamikaz drones.

              I’ll explain to you what

...you use two different verbal structures to refer to one type of weapon.
Therefore, I repeat - to make it easier, give me a sample of a kamikaze drone and a sample of loitering ammunition.

The distance is 200 km, not the speed, read more carefully.

Read carefully - 200 km in “more than an hour” - incl. even slower

It’s not just divorced, it’s swarming.
Made for every taste and color..
No matter how it occurs to them to make drones specifically to destroy air defense systems.
And the “partners” will not refuse this, to test it in real combat operations.

Drones now dominate as strike weapons. They are transformed into small-sized, high-precision, autonomous and long-range power supplies. But there are no effective means of combating them...and this is very bad. The predominance of Wed defense stops the widespread spread of Wed attack....there must be parity. And now practically any means of defense is inferior to that of attack. For example, air defense systems will not be able to shoot down all targets if they pile up in a large group in a narrow sector. And these will not be airplanes, but drones, missile launchers and ballistic missiles... long-range MLRS and LC shells. In wall-to-wall tactics, the defense loses if the enemy is proactive, has good comprehensive intelligence and is constantly looking for different ways to attack. In such a situation, I see only one effective way - to prevent the enemy from carrying out such launches: knock out the power supply units themselves in warehouses and factories, destroy the launchers... increase the range of the front from rear objects, multi-echelon air defense and electronic warfare.

How does this product differ from a homing missile?
AI + homing, control system and the like - all this makes the product more expensive and in no way makes it better than regular Geranium.

And this is a cruise missile. Journalists just float around in terminology.
If you go to the manufacturer's website, you will see - cruise missile

Here is Bayraktar, a seemingly well-known company with some success and the latest drone with a range of 200 km. Ukrop, which mainly exploits the Soviet legacy or copies other people's developments, recently boasted that they had made a drone with a range of 3000 km. Is someone lying?
