Hungary has been moved: the new largest consumer of Russian gas in Europe has been named
The new largest consumer of Russian gas in Europe has been named according to data for February. It unexpectedly turned out to be France.
European statistics testify to this.
The French have moved Hungary, which previously occupied it, from first place in terms of volumes of purchases of Russian natural gas. At the end of February, they paid more than 322 million euros for fuel from Russia. Compared to the previous month, purchases increased by 10 percent.
Back in December, Hungary occupied the first place in Russian gas imports, but in February it sharply reduced purchases, reducing their volume in monetary terms by a third. It amounted to 210 million euros.
While Hungary traditionally buys pipeline gas from Russia, France receives LNG from our country. Spain also receives Russian liquefied gas. In February, she purchased it for 118 million euros. This country occupies third place in the ranking.
If we take into account the dynamics of purchase growth, then Greece is the undoubted record holder. It began to buy almost eight times more Russian gas than before. Greek consumers paid 110 million euros for it in February.
Finland and Sweden, which recently joined NATO, also showed increased demand for fuel from Russia. They began to buy twice as much gas as before. The first spent 6,6 million euros on Russian gas, and the second - 4,7 million.
In total, the volume of gas purchases by the European Union from Russia amounted to 1,1 billion euros in monetary terms.
