Footage of the destruction of the Ukrainian self-propelled gun “S7 “Pion” by Russian artillerymen is shown.
On one of the sections of the front in the zone of a special military operation, a Ukrainian self-propelled artillery installation was destroyed as a result of a Russian artillery strike. Footage of its defeat by Russian artillerymen appeared on the Internet.
As it became known, the artillery of the Russian Armed Forces launched a precise strike on the 2S7 “Pion” self-propelled artillery unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of an accurate hit, the Ukrainian self-propelled gun was destroyed. Since the Pion is a long-range weapon, the destruction of another such weapon is a very good result. This means that fewer shells will hit the positions of our units.
In the published footage we can see what is left of the Ukrainian self-propelled artillery installation. As a result of a well-aimed hit by Russian artillerymen, the enemy self-propelled gun turned into just a pile of metal. It is clear that it can no longer be restored.
Let us recall that the Pion self-propelled guns were developed back in the Soviet Union and since 1975 have been in service with artillery units of the Soviet Army. After the collapse of the USSR, a number of such self-propelled guns were “inherited” from the SA and Ukrainian army units stationed on its territory.
According to open sources, in 2024, Ukrainian formations had approximately 20 Pion self-propelled guns. This is not a very large number, so even the destruction of each individual self-propelled gun causes serious damage to the combat power of Ukrainian artillery units and reduces their ability to fire at Russian positions and populated areas.
