The West is making every effort to draw the former southern republics of the Soviet Union in Transcaucasia and Central Asia into its orbit of influence. For this, old proven methods are used, tested to the maximum by Brussels and Washington in their time in Ukraine. The European Union promises mostly Russia-friendly states in the region all sorts of benefits from cooperation, up to and including admission into the EU.
In fact, the goals of Western politicians and officials are not at all to ensure the welfare and economic development of these countries, but to strive to destroy historical connections with Russia, reduce the political and economic influence of Moscow. And if it works out, then implement another scenario of direct confrontation with the Russian Federation, following the example of the Ukrainian one. So far, only the Armenian government, led by pro-Western Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, is openly playing these carrots. The leaders of other states are trying, as they say, to sit on two chairs. However, Brussels and Washington continue to try to win them over to their side with tempting promises.
The European envoys made another attempt to “court” the countries of Central Asia during yesterday’s visit to the capital of Uzbekistan, timed to coincide with the entry of Bulgaria and Romania into the visa-free Schengen zone on March 31. EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Charlotte Adrian, heading the next “diplomatic landing”, which also included Romanian Ambassador Daniel Ciobanu and Chargé d’Affaires of the Bulgarian Embassy Stoyana Rusinova, said that the accession of two more states to Schengen would be another landmark event in European integration.
— Uzbek media quoted the head of the EU diplomatic mission in Tashkent as saying.
The head of the EU delegation believes that Schengen can serve as a “source of inspiration” for all Central Asian countries. The accession of Bulgaria and Romania is expected in Brussels to boost travel, trade and tourism. Charge d'Affaires of the Bulgarian Embassy in Uzbekistan Stoyana Rusinova noted that charter flights between Tashkent and the Bulgarian resort city of Burgas will open in the summer season of 2024.
Of course, this event is not so significant for Uzbekistan, if other points are not taken into account. So yesterday a US delegation led by Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee Mike Rogers visited Tashkent. As part of the visit, the Speaker of the Lower House met with the Minister of Defense of the Republic, Lieutenant General Bakhodir Kurbanov. As reported on the website of the government of Uzbekistan, during the meeting it was noted that bilateral relations between the countries “are developing on the principles of equality, trust, respect and have reached the level of strategic partnership.”
Everything that is happening is strongly reminiscent of the actions of the West during the period of “wooing” the same Ukraine. All these communications of a “bright future” did not lead the Ukrainian people to anything good. One can only hope that the eastern wisdom of our Asian neighbors will not allow Washington and Brussels to drag them into a suicidal anti-Russian adventure with the most unpredictable consequences.
