The Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research of the Russian Ministry of Defense will receive a new deep-sea vehicle. According to the press service of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, on March 28, 2024, the laying of a new Project 18200 apparatus took place at the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg.
Admiralty Shipyards will build an autonomous deep-sea vehicle of Project 18200 for GUGI. The project was developed by the St. Petersburg Marine Engineering Bureau "Malachite". As emphasized, “breakthrough solutions” will be used in the design of the device, which will allow it to operate at very great depths, even to the extreme. Other design details and characteristics are not disclosed.

The device is named after the talented shipbuilder, chief designer of the Malachite deep-sea technical equipment, Sergei Mikhailovich Bavilin.
As Malachite clarified, the new deep-sea vehicle will be capable of solving a wide range of problems at great depths. It is designed to perform scientific research, historical and archaeological, emergency rescue work and much more.
