Former EU military chief: Macron needs to remember the consequences before announcing the sending of troops to Ukraine
14
The French president should have thought first, and only then announced the possible sending of troops to Ukraine. Apparently, he did not think about how Russia would respond to this. This statement was made by the former head of the main military headquarters of the EU, Jean-Paul Perruch.
According to the French military man, Macron did not think at all about what response would come from Russia if French troops appeared in Ukraine. Although existing plans do not provide for the participation of the French in battles on the front line, it cannot be ruled out that Russian troops will open fire on them. In addition, it is extremely risky to intervene in a conflict using the forces of one country; the consequences can be extremely negative.
The scenarios discussed today do not address pressing operational issues at the front, and therefore are unlikely to work unless we foresee what will happen when the Russians open fire
- said Perruch.
Earlier, Macron said that France would do “everything possible” to prevent Russia from winning the conflict with Ukraine. At the same time, he advocated sending NATO troops to Ukraine, although he did not receive much support from NATO allies, with the exception of the three Baltic limitrophes. Macron's statements were criticized in the United States and Europe, since a direct conflict between NATO and Russia could lead to a third world war. Nevertheless, the French president continues to speak in the same spirit, sowing panic among NATO allies.
