FT spoke about the locators of the Ukrainian ZVOOK system, which allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to determine the type of flying missile or drone
A few days ago, the Commander-in-Chief of the US Air Force in Europe, James Hecker, during an interview, explained how the Ukrainian military manages to calculate the location and flight direction of Russian kamikaze UAVs "Geran-2".
According to him, on communication towers throughout Ukraine there are hundreds of phones with microphones that pick up the sound of the internal combustion engines installed on the drone, and a “specially trained” person records these signals and reports the location drone air defense forces.
However, as it turned out, Hecker did not reveal all the secrets. In their recent article, journalists from the Financial Times spoke about the locators of the Ukrainian ZVOOK system, which are capable of detecting not only a UAV, but also the type of flying missile by sound.
The material states that the sound receivers operate from generators and transmit information via the Starlink satellite Internet. Such devices are located on hills - roofs of houses, poles, cell towers, etc.
The essence of the ZVOOK system is that the above-mentioned locators pick up the sound signal, and the neural network processes the received information, transmitting data about the type of ammunition and the direction of its flight to the air defense forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the publication, dozens of such locators have already been installed throughout Ukraine.
