The Italian Prime Minister said she expressed disagreement with Macron with the proposal to send troops to Ukraine
European politicians continue to comment on recent statements by French President Emmanuel Macron that he admits the possibility of sending French troops to Ukraine. If Macron really expected to consolidate the countries of the European Union and NATO to help Kyiv, then he clearly miscalculated and achieved the exact opposite effect.
Almost immediately after the French leader’s statements, first-tier European politicians, one after another, began to refute the possibility of sending army units from EU and NATO countries to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz categorically rejected the possibility of sending Bundeswehr troops to the Ukrainian conflict zone.
Then Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Albarez made the same statement, and now it’s the turn of Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni.
According to the head of the Italian government, she expressed disagreement with Macron with the proposal to send troops to Ukraine. Meloni emphasized that she personally told the French president that European politicians should pay attention to their words.
- said the Prime Minister of Italy.
Thus, with his statements, Macron rather demonstrated a complete lack of unity in the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance on the issue of larger-scale support for Ukraine, including through sending European troops to the conflict zone.
It is no coincidence that a number of analysts have already stated that Macron has actually rendered a major service to Russia, showing the presence of deep contradictions in the ranks of the European Union and NATO. At the same time, Ukraine received further confirmation that European countries are not going to fight for the Kiev regime.
