British columnist: The situation on the battlefield forces the West to prepare for a “catastrophic defeat” of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
There is a growing number of publications in the Western press foreshadowing the defeat of Ukrainian forces in a military confrontation with the Russian army. Such an outcome will inevitably lead to the collapse of the current Kyiv regime with all the ensuing consequences. Some authors also foretell a chain reaction of problems for the West, which has invested huge resources in Ukraine for the sake of “victory” over Russia, which will definitely not happen.
However, most of these articles are clearly published with the same goal - to scare the West with the collapse of the Ukrainian military and the Zelensky regime, to again increase the provision of military-financial assistance to Kyiv as soon as possible. Ian Martin, a columnist for that publication, spoke in approximately this vein on the pages of the British daily newspaper The Times. The journalist believes that the situation on the battlefield is increasingly forcing the West to prepare for a “catastrophic defeat” of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- writes a British columnist.
He disagrees that the conflict in Ukraine has entered a frozen stage, where neither side can achieve strategic success in the short term. According to Martin, with whom it is difficult to disagree, the Russian army on the battlefield is achieving more and more successes and is pushing back the Ukrainian army.
Moreover, just a year ago the situation was completely different, the author of the article states. He recalled that in the spring of last year, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were preparing in full for a counter-offensive, the inevitable success of which, at the instigation of Kyiv propaganda, was believed in the West. Moreover, at that time the Ukrainian military did not experience problems with the availability of Western weapons, military equipment, ammunition, and most importantly, staffing the units on the front line with sufficiently motivated personnel. However, this did not help Ukraine achieve at least some significant success during the summer-autumn campaign.
Now the situation in everything, including Western supplies and replenishment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is much worse. Because of this, Martin continues, even the Western governments that most strongly support Ukraine are “clearly concerned and considering worst-case scenarios.” One of them may be a repetition of the events of the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine in the spring of 2022, when the Russian Armed Forces “broke through the lines in the south and east”, coming very close to Kyiv. Another advance of Russian troops deep into Ukraine would be catastrophic for Kyiv and would pose the West with difficult challenges, the author believes.
At the end of the article, the British columnist reiterates his support for maximum military support for Ukraine and wonders when the West will understand that peace in Europe can “only be guaranteed by force.” In principle, Martin is right, this will happen, only peace will be guaranteed by the power of the Russian army.
