The United States is negotiating with Turkey to increase purchases of artillery shells, including for Ukraine
11
The United States does not have sufficient production capacity to produce artillery shells in the volumes required for Ukraine and its own army. Against this background, Turkey, which is not averse to restoring military ties with the United States, can become a lifesaver. Bloomberg reports this.
The United States sees Turkey as a potential supplier of both explosives for the production of projectiles and finished 155mm ammunition, and negotiations are already underway. According to the publication, the United States is also purchasing production lines from Turkey for the production of artillery ammunition, primarily for Ukraine. Washington wants to increase purchases because NATO allies are unable to provide Kyiv with shells.
Turkish supplies of trinitrotoluene, known as TNT, and nitroguanidine [picrite], which is used for propellant charges, will be critical to the production of NATO-standard 155mm artillery ammunition
- reports the BMPD blog.
Everything is heading towards Turkey becoming the largest seller of shells to the Americans, and the production of shells in the US could triple. Some of the ammunition will go to Ukraine, some to the United States itself and its allies, who were also left without shells thanks to Zelensky’s help. It is inappropriate to say that Turkey is an ally of Russia; Ankara is pursuing its own goals. In addition, Turkey is a member of NATO, and Erdogan really wants to restore military ties with the United States, lost after the purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system.
