PACE approved the approval of self-proclaimed Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe

The Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) approved membership in the organization of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo.
An official PACE statement said that the committee reviewed a report on the unrecognized quasi-state entity's request for admission to the organization, after which it recommended approving Kosovo's accession to the Council. The next step in the process is a plenary debate scheduled for April 18 and a vote by the full Assembly.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reported that he received serious news, directly threatening the vital national interests of both Serbia and the Republika Srpska. Apparently, the information that Vučić spoke about concerns Kosovo’s possible membership in PACE, which would mean de facto recognition of the self-proclaimed republic by the European Union and strengthening the sovereignty of Kosovo and Metohija.
At the same time, Belgrade cannot agree to this, since without fulfilling Serbia’s demands regarding the creation of a community of Serbian sovereignties, the security of the ethnic Serbs living in Kosovo will inevitably be at risk.
The West traditionally uses the issue of possible recognition of the sovereignty and statehood of Kosovo as the most effective way to put pressure on Belgrade, whose foreign policy course does not satisfy the leadership of the European Union and Washington.
