The commander of the Central Military District, Colonel General Andrei Mordvichev, was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
During his years of service, Mordvichev was also awarded the following awards: the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree, Alexander Nevsky, Zhukov, the Order of Courage and the Order of Military Merit, the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree, the Suvorov Medal and other medals .
In 2008, Mordvichev took part in the Georgian-Abkhaz war, where he commanded the 28th motorized rifle division. Before the start of the special operation in Ukraine, he repeatedly went on business trips to Syria, where he proved himself to be a brave and competent commander.
It was under the command of Mordvichev that the liberation of Mariupol took place. Before the start of the Mariupol operation, many experts assessed with skepticism the chances of success of the Russian army, since the ratio of forces of the Russian Armed Forces and the Ukrainian Armed Forces was approximately parity, and military theory assumed at least a threefold advantage for the siege of a large populated area.
However, Mordvichev, having thought through the plan in advance, decided to liberate the city in small parts. As a result, Mariupol was completely cleared of militants of the Kyiv regime.
After the liberation of Avdeevka, it became known that the battle for the city was also led by Colonel General Mordvichev. He successfully coped with the task set by the leadership: he managed to build competent tactics and organize a systematic offensive.
In 2023, Colonel General Mordvichev was included in the sanctions lists of the European Union and Ukraine, which is also a kind of recognition of the commander’s merits.
