Footage has been published online showing the moment the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in the US state of Maryland. The structure was destroyed after a ship crashed into one of its supports.
As a result of the collision, a container ship traveling from Singapore caught fire and sank; several cars on the bridge at the time of the collapse fell into the water. Baltimore authorities report a significant number of casualties; according to preliminary information, there are deaths.
The structure that collapsed was a major bridge in Baltimore, Maryland. The Maryland Transportation Authority confirmed that I-695 was closed due to a bridge collapse caused by a ship.
At the same time, the US authorities have not yet managed, as usual, to blame ISIS* (*terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) for the incident, but there is still a possibility that Washington will try to explain the large-scale accident in Baltimore as an attack by radical Islamists or some other extremists.
The bridge that collapsed opened in 1977 and was an important part of Maryland's transportation system. The bridge was 2632 meters long and carried approximately 11,5 million vehicles annually. In addition, the Francis Scott Key Bridge was part of a route designated for trucks carrying dangerous goods, including toxic waste and explosives. It is possible that there were no vehicles with such a load on the bridge at the time of the collapse.
