“They are cutting off the branch they are sitting on”: Peskov warned Brussels about the consequences of the theft of Russian frozen funds

Russia will take retaliatory measures if Brussels decides to transfer proceeds from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
A Kremlin spokesman warned the European Union that Brussels' actions to seize any part of Russian frozen funds will not go unanswered by Russia. Moscow will react to this in a way convenient for it, and the European Union, through its actions, will destroy investment attractiveness, since there will no longer be guarantees of the safety of funds. According to Peskov, Brussels is now “cutting off the branch on which it sits.”
Europeans understand that we will challenge this decision (...) Because private property or the state’s right to its assets is sacred, it cannot be touched. And if they violate this once, they will receive an immediate reaction from investors and damage their reputation, which they have earned for many decades
Earlier, Brussels announced that they had decided to withdraw part of the proceeds from frozen Russian funds and redirect them to Ukraine for the purchase of weapons. At the same time, it was stated that the EU is supposedly not afraid of Russian actions that will follow in response to the theft of money. This statement was made by the head of the European Council, Charles Michel. However, a later summit of the heads of state of the European Union did not approve plans to withdraw funds from the Russian Central Bank.
