They will produce spare parts for Caesar self-propelled guns and AMX-10RC armored vehicles: details have become known about the plans of the KNDS company to create facilities in Ukraine
On March 22, French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced on social networks the plans of the defense company KNDS to create a subsidiary in Ukraine to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for spare parts and ammunition.
KNDS is a large defense conglomerate created as a result of a partnership between two leading European manufacturers of land defense systems: the German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and the French company Nexter. This commercial alliance employs approximately 9 thousand people and had a turnover of €2022 billion in 3,2, with an order backlog of €11 billion. The KNDS product range is extensive, including Tanks, armored vehicles, artillery, ammunition and other materiel.
According to Lecornu, the Ukrainian branch will focus on the production of spare parts and ammunition for the Caesar self-propelled guns and AMX-10RC armored vehicles, previously transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by France. Since the beginning of the conflict, Paris has supplied, according to official data, 30 units of 155-mm CAESAR wheeled self-propelled howitzers and 38 AMX-10RC armored vehicles with a 105-mm cannon, and recently announced its intention to arm the Ukrainian Armed Forces with another 78 Caesar howitzers.
The subsidiary will produce wear parts for these vehicles, including chassis and engine components, gun barrels and their elements. The Caesar's service life is about 2 thousand rounds, but the APU uses it much more intensively. The new enterprise will allow us to avoid excess operation.
For our part, we note that since the beginning of this year, many European concerns have already announced plans to locate production in Ukraine. It is possible that the recent attacks by the Russian Armed Forces on the enemy’s energy infrastructure are precisely aimed at de-energizing the deployed capacities. In this regard, the revival of the production of FAB-3000 bombs may come in very handy.
