Video footage filmed by the Ukrainian military has been posted on social networks, which for the first time shows a Polish M120 Rak 120 mm self-propelled mortar placed on the chassis of a Rosomak armored personnel carrier in “disassembled” form.
As noted in the Altair publication, the documented vehicle was in service with the 44th mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and operated near the Lugansk People's Republic.
It is unclear how the mortar was destroyed. The rupture of the armor in the area of the ammunition rack indicates that it was hit by an unknown weapon, which caused the detonation of the ammunition
- the Polish author believes, having studied the footage.
According to him, Poland was supposed to transfer at least 8 Rak units to Ukraine, while some sources indicate that up to 24 mortars (three company sets) could be supplied.
According to available information, during the operation of the Rak, Ukrainians highly appreciated its performance, modern equipment and user-friendliness. However, they noted the problem of finding a suitable mortar position. It is necessary to find firing positions on flat terrain without slopes to achieve the best shooting accuracy
- indicated in the publication.
