French press: On the Ukrainian front, components of Western military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were chewed by mice and rats

Many equipment components of Western armored vehicles and artillery systems, made from “environmentally friendly” materials, failed due to rodents during the fighting in Ukraine. The French publication Le Figaro writes about this, citing its own sources in the ranks of the Ukrainian armed forces.

At one time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces received a large amount of Western military equipment. Some of the equipment on this technique was manufactured taking into account modern requirements for “environmentally friendly” materials. But in the field, such concern for the environment played a cruel joke on military equipment.

Components of Western armored vehicles and artillery systems on the Ukrainian front were chewed by mice and rats. Field rodents turned out to be another big problem for the Ukrainian army. The French publication writes that a number of protective sheaths for electrical wires were made from corn fiber. Naturally, rodents found such “eco-friendly” materials attractive to the taste and began to chew them. After this, the equipment began to fail.

Environmental responsibility is no good in war. Western cars were intended to be technology showcases. But in mud and cold this does not always work

- notes the French publication.

Previously, Ukrainian military personnel complained of an invasion of mice and rats in trenches and dugouts. Rodents spoiled ammunition and uniforms, depleted food supplies and simply prevented Ukrainian soldiers from sleeping and conducting simple field life. It was very difficult to fight a huge number of rodents.

Now mice and rats, as we see, have taken over the military equipment of the Ukrainian army. For European manufacturers, this situation is another reason to think about whether production should always be subordinated to ideological goals abstracted from reality, or whether one should still be guided by common sense.

Poorly, very poorly, you know history, back in 1942
In the 204th regiment of the 22nd tank division, rodents disabled 62 tanks out of 104.

It depends on what phase they are gnawing... at 6/10 kV there are only teeth left, but at 35 kV there are no teeth left!
And so, this is pure physics... birds also sit on the wires, but only small ones... eagles on high-voltage lines manage to touch two phases at once and then kirdyk, scorched carcasses.

I saw it myself, with my own eyes: the automation of the machine (theirs, GDR, boring "Mikromat") is assembled on a relay. There is a wire hanging next to the basket with relays. Nibbled clean, just bare veins. The machine periodically breaks down and the transistors in the drive burn out. The reason is generally clear: a wire is chewed somewhere, so it shorts, and the transistor in 2 of the four drive arms burns. And as icing on the cake, there is a rat skeleton lying on the input terminals where the 380 is inserted into the machine. And on all three contacts at once.

Field cables are saved by jute, impregnated braid and steel tape, armor... and even field mice gnaw through lead cables!!! Alas, I have many years of experience in struggling/suffering from this kind of misfortune... it is especially tedious to restore main cables under pressure!!! I snorted so much ether, enough to last me a lifetime.
Then cables filled with hydrophobic gel appeared! The infection is nuclear, it stinks and is difficult to clean. Rats, mice, cables, and top insulation bite, but cannot eat, so nothing critical happens.

Not surprisingly, rats and mice were born before us.

Ukrainian soldiers complained about the infestation of mice and rats in trenches and dugouts

This is a scourge for everyone and the Russian troops. You cannot cancel nature and everyone wants to live, even rodents. Now, if they gnawed NATO uranium cores, it would be 100% beneficial. Then they would say that the Ministry of Defense attracted partisan rat-and-mouse troops to the fighting.
Now they will think about how to add cat urine to plastic.
