Israeli press: Netanyahu government is holding secret talks with Congo on “voluntary resettlement” of Gazans
137
The Israeli government intends to solve the problem with the Palestinians by relocating them from the Gaza Strip after the war; Tel Aviv is conducting secret negotiations with several countries at once. According to The Times of Israel, one of the countries is Congo.
According to the publication, citing unnamed sources, Israel is looking for countries that could accept residents of the Gaza Strip after the end of hostilities. Netanyahu's government wants to make so-called "voluntary resettlement" official policy, although the decision is opposed by all countries, including Israel's allies. However, this does not stop Tel Aviv.
Reportedly, Congo has already agreed to accept thousands of “voluntary migrants” from the Gaza Strip, but Israel will not limit itself to this country alone; negotiations are underway with several other unnamed countries. In particular, Saudi Arabia was considered among possible resettlement sites.
Congo will be willing to accept migrants and we are in talks with others (...) Our problem is [to find] countries willing to accept Gazans and we are working on that
- Netanyahu said at a meeting of the Likud faction.
Plans for “voluntary migration” of Palestinians were sharply criticized by the United States, France and Germany. The authorities of these countries opposed the expulsion of Palestinians from their lands.
