Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN: The UN Security Council did not live up to the expectations placed on it regarding the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone
Trying to stop the escalation in the Middle East, Russia has several times introduced resolutions on this issue to the UN Security Council. However, the United States and its protégés did not allow them to be accepted every time. Once again, the Russian resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was not supported during the vote in the Security Council.
The Russian representative to the UN and the Security Council, Vasily Nebenzya, expressed great regret that a key international structure was unable to respond to the “unprecedented crisis” in the Middle East.
Nebenzya said.
The Russian diplomat noted that some members of the UN Security Council were closed in on their national agendas and did not find the courage to support Moscow’s resolution.
Let us recall that the UN Security Council consists of 15 members, five of which are permanent – Russia, China, the USA, Great Britain and France. The ten remaining members of the Council rotate every two years. Today they are Gabon, Mozambique, United Arab Emirates, Japan, Albania, Brazil, Ecuador, Ghana, Malta and Switzerland.
To make a decision, the Security Council requires that 9 out of 15 members vote in favor and that all permanent members are among them. However, yesterday only four countries voted for Russia's resolution.
