OSUT: What is the combined infantry training course in the US Army

All recruits who sign a contract with the United States Armed Forces undergo mandatory basic BCT training. They are then assigned, depending on their military specialty, to various units where they will undergo advanced individual AIT training.

Meanwhile, there is also a combined method of preparing recruits for service in the American army called OSUT. This course lasts 22 weeks, takes place on the territory of Fort Benning (from 2023 Fort Moore) and includes BCT, AIT, as well as final exams.

It is worth noting that passing OSUT is only available to future infantrymen and tank crews.

The training of recruits begins with basic strength training in the form of passing obstacles. Then there is a basic hand-to-hand combat course.

The following stages include: shooting from an assault rifle, practicing actions in case of a chemical or nuclear threat, shooting from a SIG Sauer M17 pistol, pole fighting, mastering the use of a hand grenade, as well as shooting from under-barrel grenade launchers M320 and M320A1.

In addition, during OSUT, field exercises, urban combat training, as well as mastering the control and use of weapons of Bradley and Stryker armored vehicles are conducted.

After completing OSUT and passing the exam, former recruits are sent to their first duty stations. Typically, during this training, program participants alternately take on the responsibilities of a platoon sergeant, squad leader, group commander, etc.

Yes - pole fighting is very, very important for an infantryman... Yes, and pistol shooting is also important, for what it’s worth.

It is very important for the automaticity of skills... Or a supporter of the principle: You can’t drink away mastery?

“shooting from an assault rifle” - 33 years have passed, and people are still using tracing paper from an unknown date. as if schoolchildren were writing.

In Russian it is written “automatic”, why bring the alien tracing paper assault rifle into our speech?
It's just like "you made my day"

Sturmbannführer Stirlitz sat on the Sturmtiger with a Sturmgewehr in his hands.

It so happened that the Germans were the first to massively arm their military with this type of bullet, calling it an “assault rifle - Sturmgewehr” out of base propaganda aspirations. And whoever stood up first gets the slippers.
Kalashnikov, by the way, called the AK prototype an “automatic carbine.”

There is no bayonet fighting in the States, but on poles it also increases combat stability.

It may be alien to you, but for those who understand everything about the topic and it doesn’t hurt their ears, for example, I first read that a machine gun and an assault rifle are the same thing in the Soviet magazine Tekhnika Molodezhi, by the way, you made my day, also quite a suitable expression .

Is the Russian army being prepared in the same way or is it better already?
