USMC V-22 Osprey tiltrotor with Marines on board crashes off the coast of Australia
The US Marine Corps lost another tiltrotor V-22 Osprey, the car crashed off the coast of Australia during the Predators Run military exercises. This is reported by the Australian press.
According to published data, a US Marine Corps tiltrotor crashed near Melville Island in northern Australia, 60 km from the city of Darwin. Twenty Marines were on board, no deaths have been reported yet, but rescue services said they were looking for several "missing" troops. Other details of the incident were not reported.
the Australian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that the fallen tiltrotor took part in the Predators Run exercises, where, in addition to the Americans, military personnel from East Timor, Indonesia and the Philippines participated.
It is worth noting that the accidents of the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor are not surprising, these rotorcraft have long been experiencing problems with the transmission, then with the gearbox, then with the clutch. Tiltroplanes crashed twice last year, once in Norway during an exercise, and the second time in the United States, killing five members of the US Army.
The US Marine Corps has repeatedly suspended V-22 Osprey flights due to technical issues, but has resumed them since the aircraft is the mainstay of the Marine Corps and there is currently nothing to replace it with.
