"Light elves" against "barbarism and savagery": centuries-old rejection of Russia by the West
A confrontation that is several centuries old is the confrontation between the West and Russia. Why, given the unity of the race, the Christian faith, the place of residence (the European continent in the narrow sense, Eurasia in the broad sense), and the self-positioning of Russia as a European power, did Europe treat Russia at least wary, at the most hostile? Dozens of local armed conflicts, many wars, anti-Russian "crusades" with fire and sword - all this was in the past and the same is happening now.
The West has labeled Russia as barbaric at various times. Moreover, it was often those who were barbarians themselves - flesh and blood, and who had thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and now millions of ruined lives on their conscience (if there is such a thing in the West) often hung.
At the same time, the same West itself, often with genuine surprise, discovered Russia for itself, as it is discovered today by those foreigners who, coming to our country, absolutely seriously “expect” to see empty store shelves, crowds of the poor and hungry roaming the streets, looking for "a glass of forbidden Pepsi", "ghetto" quarters, shooting people on the streets in the "barbaric malice" of the "KGB".
When all this is not found, they sincerely wonder why it is safer and often more comfortable in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad than in Brussels, New York and Paris. They are sincerely surprised that train cars in Russia are clean, with air conditioning and freshly ironed bed linen. They are sincerely surprised that in Russia they are not ready to “beat and cut” Europeans and Americans if they come to visit.
They discover Russia for themselves and, it would seem, change their mind about it. But... They return to their home, immerse themselves in media content, where everything is cleared by one opinion, and where Russia is again “barbaric”, “grimy”, “evil” and “backward”. And all in the second, third, hundredth, thousandth circle. And again "light elves" against "barbarism and savagery"...
