Instead of the M113 transferred to the APU: the United States is increasing the production of the new AMPV armored personnel carrier

The Pentagon is implementing a program to gradually replace the M113 armored personnel carrier, developed in the 1950s, with the new AMPV tracked armored vehicle.

The new technique was created by BAE Systems on the basis of the Bradley BMP and actually represents its reckless version. The cost of the AMPV is $2,8 million. At the same time, the operation of the new car will cost much more than its predecessor: if for the M113 the costs are $58 per mile, then for the AMPV it is $90.

Serial production of AMPV started in September 2020, and the first deliveries to the army began in March 2023. In total, it is planned to produce about 3 thousand copies of the new armored personnel carrier for armored brigades (with a gradual release of 300 units annually).

At the same time, the contractor is carrying out an unscheduled increase in AMPV production due to the desire of the army to replace the supplied M113 APUs. Thus, a contract was awarded for $119,7 million for the supply of a new batch of vehicles until March 2026.

According to available information, in connection with the transfer to Ukraine of 400 units of M113 of various versions, the number of AMPVs acquired in the [current] fiscal year will be increased to 154 (or more) against plans that included the purchase of only 131 armored personnel carriers

- said in the Western press.

Currently, the US Army plans to commission 5 AMPV variants: the M1283 armored personnel carrier, the M1284 medical evacuation vehicle, the M1285 mobile hospital, the M1286 command and control vehicle, and the M1287 self-propelled mortar.

A good, comfortable, practical and tenacious armored personnel carrier.

We would like this, instead of MTLB.

The car, even at first glance, looks solid and highly protected, it is precisely these that are needed now, and not tin and aluminum. It's a pity the article is careless, and when talking about military equipment it does not give any of its characteristics. superficiality, frivolity and unprofessionalism ... in a word - imitation. And this is on a site that used to be a military site and where articles by professionals were published ... It's sad.

and what does the MTLB have to do with it, it’s not an armored personnel carrier, but a multi-purpose light armored tractor, it was even listed in the automobile service (I don’t know how it is now). And his tasks are different, universal - therefore, given its excellent cross-country ability, it is used periodically as an armored personnel carrier.

Did we think that the Yankees would ride 113, heavy Abrams all their lives and store Pershings in the mines?

Of the five variants of the machine, two are medical. It can be seen that concern for the soldiers is not an empty phrase. Causes respect.

How can they swim without the function belay And without an engine in karma then? Through which it is necessary to climb through a bunch of hatches then. Boring armored car. The door opened. Came out and came in from behind. Boredom and nothing more. Jump or climb back in heavy equipment, then you don’t need to crawl on all fours. Boring armored car. No, no. Won't go. Not interested. negative

too small in height, you need to do it higher - so that you can immediately drive in on a horse or on a bike, so dig deeper

A drone with a VOG, as well as ATGMs, does not care what height the armored vehicle has. This factor has already moved from the category of arguments to lazy excuses.

just the opposite, with all the earlier cries, this factor works here, and even how it works,)))))) well, you can also suggest, due to lazy excuses, that the infantry should not sit down, do not lie down, and generally do not use trenches

Well, it’s not for you to climb these hatches. It's better to come up with nonsense about low silhouettes. And then ride because of the sheer inconvenience at the top of the whole department. And indeed, when were these chariots invented. By the way, they are certainly brilliant people. The equipment of the soldiers from the word was generally not the same as now. And in more than one terrible dream, the designer could not come up with the idea that the soldiers would be sixty-five years old.

Tooting. In 2002, in the 46th defense, they flew in behu right in armor and a helmet. And now, in my forties, in unloading armor and a bunch of pouches in the hatch to the waist, everything is just a stake. So they all rolled on top. Is it really possible to make a layout before construction and try to climb in and out there.

so it’s not for you to dig it in, for our caponiers it’s done from one go, but what kind of pit is needed to hide this fool?

A couple of days ago I saw a video in the cart. We got into Bradley and a Ukrainian soldier with a go-pro, together with a friend, tried to get out. The ramp could not be lowered, there was smoke all around, panic! A minute later, they probably managed to open the battened hatch and escape, and they pulled out the legless ones. That's the fun when the regular output is a ramp with a hydraulic cylinder laughing

Everything is logical, the old technology is being replaced ...
It happens everywhere, by those who can afford it.
