SS vs SA

When the Nazis came to power, they immediately clashed over it, just like the Communists, who in the summer of 1918 had organized a "showdown" with the attempts on each other.

The first victims were those who brought the NDCA to power: attack aircraft. Just like the Baltic sailors. Many attack aircraft believed that it was they who brought the party to power. And if so, then they will be the main part of the state in the Third Reich.

Rem and his supporters were the most "left" of the Nazis: abolish large property! Give employees guarantees and benefits! They wanted to turn the SA into a Nazi army, and include the Reichswehr into the SA.

To Rem was ideologically close left, the socialist wing of the Nazi Party. The Left Nazis, led by the Strasser brothers, wanted an alliance with Moscow against the Anglo-American threat. And the national Bolshevik Ernst Nikish was a staunch Russophile.

And then the Nazis made a "coup after the coup." 30 June 1934 of the year they moved army units and SS against attack aircraft. The fight was short, because the forces are unequal, and the attack aircraft did not expect anything like that. During the "Night of the Long Knives" they shot Hitler's longtime associate, the head of the SA Rem, the leader of the "Left Fascists" Gregor Strasser, von Cara, the former Reich Chancellor General Schleicher and many other figures.

Since that time, SA has lost its political significance.

“But” the value of SS grows.

Of course, real politics forced the Nazis to retreat from their favorite racial ideas. How this happened is perfectly seen in the example of an organization such as the SS.

SS (SS, short for Sutzschtaffeln) - security detachments. The term itself was suggested by Goering, the fighter pilot of the First World War. So called "Cover Squadron" - a group of fighters, providing the action of strike aircraft. Hitler liked the name and stuck.

Y. Shrekk

Initially, the “guard squad” as part of 9, the man personally guarded Hitler and was called the “guard squad“ Adolf Hitler ”. In April, 1925 of the year, J. Shrekk began to form Hitler's personal guards, making a set of assault units that received the name “guard units” in September.

6 On January 1929, the new Reichsführer SS was assigned Himmler. At that time, the SS consisted of only 280 people.

By the 1934 coup, the number of SS was more than 50 thousand people in the assault squads. SS wore the usual form of attack aircraft. But the SS wore black caps, ties, breeches and armband with a black border. First, on their caps, the SS wore a skull - a “dead head” with a round metal cockade with concentric rings of black, white and red.

But by that time the SSs were already virtually independent and controlled by attack aircraft.

After the “night of long knives”, the SS units submitted only to the NSDAP. Since then, the SS wore a black uniform, and insignia in the form of a "dead head" on his cap and two runes "zig", that is, "victory", on the sleeve. The design of the form was developed by Hugo Boss (la, that Hugo Boss, whose company even today supplies its glamorous products to many countries of the world).

Initially, the selection in the SS was very tough. The SS took volunteers - tall men of Aryan origin 25 — 35 years who knew their origin: rank and file before 1800, officers — up to 1750. Carefully checked the party’s credibility of the applicant.

In 1938, the “baptism of fire” of the SS took place during the capture of the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia. Since then, ethnic Germans living outside Germany (Volksdeutsche) were also taken to the SS. They played a prominent role in the formation of the so-called “native” SS divisions (divisions in which non-SS members could serve).

Gradually, the Nazis began to expand the base of the SS. Turn it into a kind of guard. At first, units recruited in violation of racial laws were called “SS reinforcement parts”. With 1940, they were officially called "SS troops." By 1945, the number of SS troops exceeded 1 million.

As a result, of the 37 SS divisions that participated in the war, only 12 were German. At first, representatives of the “kindred” Germanic peoples — the Danes, the Dutch, the Norwegians, and the Flemings — entered the national SS formations.

The first foreign division of the SS was the 5-division of the SS "Wiking", consisting of three regiments - the Flemish "Wfestland", the Danish-Norwegian "Nordland" and the German "Deutschland". It seems also the Nordic race.

Then they took ... essentially anyone. The ethnic composition of the Waffen-SS formations was extremely varied. It:
- 13-I SS mountain division "Khanjar" (Croats); 14 Grenadier Division "Galicia" (Ukrainians); 15-SS SS Grenadier Division (Latvians and Baltic Germans); 15 Cossack Cavalry Corps of the SS; 19-SS SS Grenadier Division (Latvians); 20-SS SS Grenadier Division (Estonians); 21-i SS Infantry Division Skanderbeg (Albanians); 22-I Volunteer Cavalry SS Division "Maria Tere-Ziya" (Hungarians); 23-I SS Mountain Division "Kama" (Croats); 23-I Volunteer Tank-Grenadier SS Division "Nederland" (the Dutch); 25-I Grenadier Division SS "Hunyadi" (Hungarians); 26-I Grenadier Division SS "Gembesh" (also Hungarians); 27-I volunteer grenadier division of the SS "Langemark" (for the Flemish); 28-I Volunteer SS Tank-Grenadier Division (for Belgians); 29-I Grenadier Division of the SS "Rona" (Russian); 29-I Grenadier Division "Italy"; 30-SS Grenadier Division (Belarusians); 33-I Grenadier Division of the SS "Charlemamann" (French); 34-I Landstrom Nederland Volunteer Brigade (the Dutch); Muslim Division SS “New Turkestan” - Muselmanischen SS-Division Neu-Turkistan; Spanish Legion SS (Blue Division); Indian Legion "Ali Hussan"; East Turkic SS connection - Ostturkischen Wbffen-ferband der SS (composed of 2500 soldiers; for Tartars, Bashkirs, Karaites and Azerbaijanis; Georgian connections - SS-Wbffengruppe Geoigien; Azerbaijani connections - SS ^ Wkffengruppe Aserbeidschan; Armenian connections - SS-Wkffenchanpepe-X-wbffengruppe Geoigien ; Volga-Tatar Legion - Wblgatatarische Legion.

There were not only Polish, Czech and Greek separate formations, although representatives of these nations also fought in other SS units.

In general, in the name of building the Third Reich, we had to pretty much retreat from racial theory.

The 250th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht, also known as the "Blue Division", from Spain, and the Spanish Waffen-SS Legion, are two different things.
