Thanks to publications on social networks, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were armed with another product of the "folk art" of the Ukrainian military - a Soviet 25-mm ship gun 2M-3 of the 1950s, mounted on the chassis of a KamAZ truck.
The 2M-3 was developed between 1945 and 1949 to arm a variety of small warships, submarines and civilian vessels supporting the navy. The production of 2M-3 and 2M-8 guns began in 1953 and continued until 1984. The design is based on the earlier 25 mm 84-KM automatic gun.
Normally the unit is hydraulically operated, but manual control is set as a backup. The guns are air-cooled, but for long-term firing they are cooled with a water hose. The rate of fire is 450 rounds per minute, the effective range is an average of 2500 meters, but 1700 meters when firing at air targets. The barrel resource is about 12 shots.
The changing landscape of naval warfare required more advanced and versatile weapon systems. As a result, the 2M-3 and 2M-8 guns were gradually withdrawn from service, giving way to more modern weapons. 2M-3 is also used by the Russian military, being installed on the MT-LB chassis.
