The first Soviet nuclear submarine K-3 "Leninsky Komsomol" took its place in the Museum of Naval Glory, which is scheduled to open this year, work on turning the submarine into a museum exhibit has been completed. This was reported on the website of the Kronstadt Marine Plant, which was engaged in the restoration of the submarine.
The main work on the submarine, carried out at the enterprise, was completed at the end of last summer, after which the submarine began to prepare for an engineering operation to move to the place of eternal parking in the Museum of Naval Glory of the Island of Forts tourist cluster in Kronstadt.
During the operation, the submarine was first delivered to the Vyborg Shipyard, where it was installed on the Atlant submersible barge, and from there it was delivered to the port of Kronstadt. Then the submarine was divided into two parts according to the donor compartment, which replaced the reactor compartment, and on special self-propelled axles at night through the streets of the city was delivered to the museum, where work continued to turn the submarine into an exhibit. Judging by the published photos, all work on the "Lenin Komsomol" has been completed, after the opening of the museum it will be possible to view it not only from the outside, but also from the inside.
K-3 "Leninsky Komsomol" - the first Soviet and the third nuclear submarine in the world, the lead ship of Project 627 "Kit". Launched on August 9, 1957. She entered service on July 1, 1958, on March 12, 1959, she became part of the 206th separate submarine brigade based at Severodvinsk. From the Northern fleet withdrawn in 1991.
