The head of the Russian Defense Ministry inspected combat duty at a new object of the outer space control system
Russia continues to develop its defense potential by putting modern systems on combat alert. One of the facilities on which the latest radar operates was visited today by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
The head of the Russian military department checked the combat duty at the new object of the outer space control system. The visit took place within the framework of the minister’s working trip to the troops of the Western Military District, сообщается in the department's TG channel.
The material says that Colonel-General Alexander Golovko, who holds the position of Commander of the Space Forces and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, made a report on the prospects and functionality of the facility.
According to the military, the new radar has unique characteristics. Thus, the commissioning of this equipment made it possible to track objects up to 10 cm in size in the near-Earth space. At the same time, the time of their detection after launch was reduced by 2 times, and the number of tracked objects increased by 4 times.
Regarding the future development of the space control system, the head of the Russian Defense Ministry was informed that a further increase in the observation area by 2027 will allow the Russian Space Forces to halve the time for identifying foreign spacecraft, including their assignment. In this case, the object detection time will be reduced by 2 times.
Finally, Pavel Sozinov, deputy director of Almaz-Antey Concern VKO (the company that developed the new system), added that this radar is unique in its kind and has no analogues, both domestically and abroad.
