Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced the transfer to Ukraine of the An-124 Ruslan military transport aircraft "confiscated" from Russia
Canada will transfer to Ukraine the An-124 Ruslan military transport aircraft, which belongs to Russia and is currently on Canadian territory. This was stated by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a conversation with Zelensky.
The Canadian prime minister paid an unannounced visit to Kyiv, during which he promised his "friend" Zelensky the allocation of another military aid package. In addition to military equipment, armored vehicles and ammunition, it will include the Russian An-124 Ruslan military transport aircraft, which has been in Canada since February 2022.
According to Reuters, this aircraft arrived at Toronto Airport on February 27, 2022, after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. The Government of Canada has chartered Ruslan, owned by the Russian airline Volga-Dnepr, to deliver medical equipment from China. The aircraft's arrival at the Canadian airfield took place two hours before the closure of Canadian airspace for Russian aircraft, so the An-124 remained in Toronto, while the crew was sent to Russia. Now the aircraft is in "temporary storage", but they are going to "confiscate" it, adjusting it to this Canadian law.
Trudeau said.
It is not yet known when Canada intends to "confiscate", or rather, openly steal a Russian aircraft. The fact that Ottawa is imposing sanctions against the Russian airline Volga-Dnepr and intends to confiscate the Ruslan located in Toronto was reported at the beginning of this year. The Canadians intend to transfer the plane to the Ukrainian company Antonov, which has only five planes left.
