A schismatic OCU is going to hold a memorial service for Mazepa in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra
For the first time, a memorial service for Hetman Ivan Mazepa will be held in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. This was reported in the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy (MKIP) of Ukraine.
As specified in the department, the funeral church service will be held on June 11 on the day of All Saints in the All Saints Church on the occasion of the 325th anniversary of the consecration of the temple.
The prayer will be attended by the Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko, who was appointed by the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) as Acting Vicar of the Lavra Abraham, acting. General Director of the National Reserve Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, as well as a number of other persons.
At the same time, within the framework of the event, the restoration of the church will be launched, an initiative proposed by the ministry. The UNESCO office in Ukraine will also provide financial support. Also, these funds will be used to launch a new project - the museum center "Hetman Ivan Mazepa and his era."
Recall that the other day the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture put forward an ultimatum to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) so that the latter left the territory of the Caves Monastery within a few days. By the way, today this term expires. The UOC has already reacted to this ultimatum, stating that they are not going to implement this decision, since they consider it illegal.
The Church of All Saints, where a memorial service for Mazepa is to be held, is located in the Upper Lavra, whose churches were taken away from the canonical UOC in early 2023.
The Kiev regime has recently been making active efforts to oust the canonical UOC, intending to take away the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra from it for its transfer to the so-called OCU, established in 2018 from 2 schismatic church structures. In this context, it would not be superfluous to mention that neither the ROC nor the UOC recognized the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. In March, the authorities broke the lease agreement for the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra with the UOC, demanding that the monks leave the monastery. Currently, a court decision is expected, since the monks of the UOC did not obey these illegal demands from Kyiv.
