The head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff predicted the long-term nature of the conflict in Ukraine
The armed conflict in Ukraine will continue for a long time. This was stated in an interview with the Associated Press by the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milley.
According to the American general, in the process of hostilities, periods of activity will be replaced by calm. That is, defensive and offensive operations will alternate, on some days there will not be too many battles, on other days, on the contrary, active combat operations will take place.
Currently, Milli notes, the fighting in the Ukrainian conflict zone has intensified. The general believes that Ukraine needs to officially announce the start of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Milli noted that the Ukrainian formations are ready to conduct a counteroffensive, since for a long time the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been trained, military equipment has been accumulated.
The words of the head of the American General Staff about the protracted nature of the Ukrainian conflict can be understood as a lack of confidence that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to achieve the announced goals in the near future. Earlier, Milli said more than once that the armed conflict in Ukraine would not end during 2023.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, meanwhile, actually made the prospects for Ukraine's membership in the alliance directly dependent on the outcome of the armed confrontation with Russia. He believes that if Ukraine is defeated in the conflict, it will not be able to become a NATO member, as it will allegedly cease to be a "sovereign and democratic" state.
