The Italian company introduced the concept of replacing the FIM-92C Stinger missiles

At the SeaFuture 2023 arms exhibition, the new generation NG V-SHORAD anti-aircraft missile, developed by the Italian company MBDA, was presented to the general public for the first time.
It is assumed that the new SAM will come to replace the US-made FIM-92C Stinger MANPADS missile, which is currently in service with the Italian army. At the moment, the tactical and technical specifications of the new ammunition are not disclosed. As indicated in the EDR Magazine, presumably, the length of the missile is 1,5 meters and the diameter is 70 mm. It is also noted that the head of the rocket will be equipped with an infrared visor.
Currently, the development of a new missile defense system is at the conceptual design stage. Qualification tests are scheduled to take place between 2025 and 2026, according to the MBDA. It is expected that the air defense system based on the new missile defense system will be presented both in a portable version and in a fixed position, for example, on various vehicles. It is assumed that in the mobile modification NG V-SHORAD will be responsible for the fight against UAVs and provide C-RAM (protection against missiles, artillery and mortar attacks), receiving target designation from the side.
In terms of its overall characteristics, the missile resembles the Stinger missile, which was put into service in 1981.
