The Indian tender for the construction of six non-nuclear air-independent submarines, announced in 2021, may be completed in the near future. According to Bloomberg, India intends to conclude a contract with the Germans.
According to the agency, New Delhi and Berlin plan to soon sign a contract for the construction of six nuclear submarines with VNEU for the Indian Navy. From the German side, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems will participate in the deal, and from the Indian side - Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The treaty will be finalized during a visit to India by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who had already arrived in New Delhi the day before.
ThyssenKrupp AG's shipbuilding division and India's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited are likely to join forces on a $5,2 billion project to build six submarines for the Indian Navy.
- said in a statement.
In a tender for the construction of six non-nuclear submarines for the Indian fleet German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, Spanish Navantia, French Naval Group, South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Russian Central Design Bureau Rubin participated. Later, Russia withdrew from the tender, offering India the joint development of a new diesel-electric submarine based on the Amur-1650 submarine, and not just licensed construction of several submarines.
Any details of a potential agreement between Germany and India have not yet been reported, most likely they will appear only after the signing of the agreement.
