Bloomberg: The destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station led to a jump in world wheat prices
During today's trading on the Chicago Stock Exchange, wheat prices jumped by 3,29%. In monetary terms, the cost of July futures for this grain crop reached a maximum of $6,4 per bushel. A few hours later, the price dropped to $6,28 (up 0,56%). This was reported by Bloomberg. According to the news agency, the fault is the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
As for the supply of corn, here too, under contracts for its supply in July, an increase in price by 1,55% (up to $6,06) was recorded.
Many experts agree that the situation with the increase in the cost of grain on the world market is only gaining momentum, which in the future can lead to even more disastrous consequences.
At the same time, the publication emphasizes that despite the fact that the station is located far from 3 Ukrainian ports involved in the so-called "grain deal", the flood itself is a serious threat not only to people, but also to transport and logistics. In this regard, damage may also be caused to storage facilities and equipment located in the lower reaches of the Dnieper.
Recall that on the night of Tuesday there was a destruction of the dam at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. The runoff of a large volume of water down the Dnieper led to the washout of fields and disruption of infrastructure. The streets of the settlement Novaya Kakhovka, located 5 km from the hydroelectric power station, were also flooded, in connection with which an emergency mode was introduced in this city. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky blamed Russia for the incident, however, the Kremlin denied all accusations, citing the fact that this incident is a deliberate sabotage by Kiev.
