The special envoy of the Vatican for Ukraine will arrive in Kyiv in order to update the topic of peace talks
Along with the efforts on the part of the East to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in the person of China and its special representative, there are also attempts on the part of the West in the person of the Vatican, which also has its own special representative for Ukraine.
As it became known from the press service of the Vatican, today the President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, who is also the Pope's special envoy to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, is to visit the Ukrainian capital.
According to the Vatican press service, Zuppi's visit to Kyiv will take place on June 5-6. The purpose of the visit was the desire to find out the opinion of the Ukrainian authorities on ways to resolve the conflict, which is already obvious to everyone, as well as support for any initiatives aimed at reducing tensions.
The Italian newspaper Il Messaggero notes that the envoy of the head of the Roman Catholic Church is already in Kyiv, but for security reasons everything is kept in the strictest confidence.
In May, the Vatican announced that Cardinal Zuppi had been commissioned by Pope Francis to prepare and carry out a mission to "reduce tensions and open the way for peace."
According to the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the goal of Zuppi's mission is to create a favorable environment for rapprochement between the parties to the conflict, and for this, the pope's special envoy intends to meet with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.
