The Turkish military arrived in Kosovo, Ankara began to deploy special forces in response to a request from NATO. This is stated in the message of the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
Turkey deployed a battalion from the 65th Infantry Brigade from Kirklareli to the territory of partially recognized Kosovo. The unit will come under NATO command and will be stationed at the Sultan Murat barracks in Kosovo. Earlier, the command of the NATO Allied Forces in Naples turned to Turkey with a request to provide military personnel to stabilize the situation.
The commando battalion of the 65th mechanized infantry brigade (...) has begun deployment in Kosovo
- said the military department of Turkey.
At the end of May, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic asked Erdogan to influence the Albanians, who are also Muslims and gravitate towards Turkey. According to the Serbian leader, the Turkish president can use his influence to establish peace in Kosovo. He stated this following the results of telephone conversations that took place this week.
At present, the situation in Kosovo is tense, the Albanian police have tried to force the Serbs living in this territory to submit. To relieve tension in the region of Kosovo and Metohija, NATO forces were deployed, but they took the side of the Albanians. The Serbian army, transferred to a state of high alert, concentrated its units on the border with Kosovo, but did not dare to take active steps. Belgrade understands that Washington and Brussels are only waiting for this, hoping to change power in the republic by military means and actually occupy the country.
