A rally against the cancellation of May 9 Victory Day is held in the capital of Moldova
Today, June 3, a rally is held in the capital of Moldova in support of the preservation of Victory Day in the republic. Hundreds of citizens came out with the flags of their country and the Soviet Union, marching through the streets of Chisinau. Participants of the action shout out the slogans “Thank you grandfather for the Victory!, May 9 is Victory Day, we remember, we are proud”, and also carry posters with the inscription “Maya, do not steal victory over fascism”.
The action started at the square of the railway station, and from there the column went to the city center.
Representatives of Moldovan opposition parties also take part in the rally, including the Shor party, which organized the event. All of them express dissatisfaction with the ongoing attempts by the authorities to rewrite history and cancel the celebration of May 9th.
Here is what follows from the statement of this political formation:
It should be noted that at the end of May, the deputy of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova from the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) Bogdan Tirdea announced that the ruling Action and Solidarity party had submitted to the legislative body of the country a draft law providing for the renaming of Victory Day and the postponement of its celebration to May 8.
By the way, a similar rally was held last week in front of the parliament building, organized by the opposition PSRM, whose leader was again elected former President of Moldova Igor Dodon.
For reference: during the Great Patriotic War, about 400 thousand natives of the Moldavian SSR fought in the Red Army. More than half of them (250 thousand people) were awarded, 19 people received the honorary title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
