Completed repair of the Smolny training ship
After the completion of the repair, the training ship Smolny arrived in Novorossiysk.
At first glance, what’s interesting here? Well, another ship was repaired, far from the most formidable and new. Meanwhile, there is something interesting - the Smolny training ship was repaired at the shipyard "Naval Arsenal ”in the Bulgarian city of Varna. The repair was carried out to repay the state debt of Bulgaria, inherited by Russia from the USSR.
This is not the first and not the last ship of the Russian Navy, whose repairs are carried out in Bulgaria - next year, the Perekop training ship will depart from Kronstadt for Varna to undergo medium repairs. The question of the repair of the hospital ship of the Black Sea Fleet “Yenisei” with the simultaneous conversion of it to the hotel for the Sochi Olympics is also being considered.
As for the hero of our story, the “foreign trail” is inextricably linked with his fate.
The Smolny training ship was built in Poland at the shipyard “Stochnia Szczecinska them. Adolf Varsky "in the city of Szczecin, becoming the lead ship of the 887 project. In June, 1976, the new training ship replenished the composition of the Navy of the USSR.
Assigned to the Leningrad Naval Base, the Smolny, together with the Perekop and Hassan training ships of the same type, made trips with cadets of naval schools every year, visiting ports of foreign countries. Properly performing the role of the “training school” in peacetime, with the start of a large-scale war, the 887 ships turned into a floating base for submarine crews, based in distant ports of friendly countries.
However sometimes the move stories unpredictable. The fact that in the 70-x or 80-x could come to mind only a science fiction writer, in our days has become a reality. Renovated in Bulgaria (a country - a member of NATO), next year Smolny will leave for Toulon (the main base of the French Navy), where it will serve as a floating tower for the Russian crew of Vladivostok type UDC, built at the STX France shipyard in the city of Sen -Naser for the Russian Navy.
