Swedish Foreign Minister to meet with his Turkish counterpart to discuss Stockholm's aspirations to join NATO

Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström plans to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to discuss issues related to Stockholm's aspirations to join the NATO military bloc.

Billström said he contacted his Turkish counterpart to congratulate Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election to the highest government position, Reuters reported, citing the Swedish Foreign Minister. According to the head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry, Cavusoglu answered him very quickly and agreed to meet to discuss issues related to the hypothetical entry of Sweden into the NATO military bloc.

It is also noted that a meeting at the level of the Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Sweden is scheduled for June 1 in Oslo.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was not ready to allow Sweden to join NATO. Erdogan called the reason for his position the unwillingness of the Swedish authorities to fight terrorism, in particular, to refuse to support Kurdish activists, who are considered terrorists in Turkey.

As long as the Swedish leadership allows offshoots of groups designated as terrorist groups to roam the streets of Stockholm freely, Erdogan said, the Turkish authorities cannot approve Sweden's NATO membership.

The aggravation of Swedish-Turkish relations also intensified after the burning of the Koran with the permission of the authorities of this country during one of the protests near the Turkish embassy.

Until a clear command is received from Erdogan ... then all these Foreign Ministry negotiations are the same as pounding water in a mortar.

So everyone knows that Turkey acts as it benefits it, but at this stage it is also beneficial for Russia that as many states as possible conduct policies based only on their own interests.
