SEZ "Alabuga": work under sanctions

The special economic zone "Alabuga", located near Yelabuga (Tatarstan) and functioning since 2006, currently includes 33 operating enterprises. At the same time, as reported, this SEZ will be expanded in the future and now about two dozen projects are at the planning stage.

It is worth recalling that it is customary to call the territory of a state as special economic zones, which have special legislation that provides investors and entrepreneurs with many advantages. For example, duty-free import / export of products, tax breaks, subsidies, as well as legal guarantees for the safety of investments.

In Russia, there are two types of SEZs: industrial-production and technology-innovative. "Alabuga" refers to the first type. On its territory, which is about 4000 hectares, there are the production of MDF boards, industrial gases, sheet and automotive glass, carbon fiber, animal feed and much more. According to data from open sources, the total revenue of Alabuga residents in 2021 amounted to 135,5 billion rubles.

At the same time, taking into account the fact that for the production of certain goods on the territory of Alabuga, foreign equipment is mostly used, the question arises of the impact of unprecedented Western sanctions on the functioning of this SEZ.

In general, according to the management of Alabuga, there are no problems with the maintenance of foreign equipment at the moment. Most of the equipment is made in China, so there are no difficulties with spare parts and consumables.

The SEZ in Tatarstan continues to function and develop, adapting to modern realities. At the same time, some experts believe that such zones on the territory of Russia, of course, are not a “panacea” that will save from all economic troubles, but they can contribute to supporting domestic producers by providing financial, engineering, industrial, social and educational support.
